What to Wear with Heels (And When to Skip Them) – Chapter 18

Let’s admit it—heels can be total outfit transformers. One second you’re in a cute-but-casual dress, and the next, you’ve got your boss-lady or glam-goddess energy on, all thanks to the power of heels. But at the same time (and I say this with love), there are days when our feet say: “Ma’am, absolutely not.”

Welcome to Chapter 18 of my “What to Wear” series, and today our hot item is Heels.

So, here’s my take on what to wear with heels (when they feel right), and when to give them a break (because comfort is also a fashion statement, ok?).

When You Should Wear Heels (and totally own it):

1. Dresses that Need a Lift
Think slip dresses, midi dresses, and even shirt dresses that look a little meh with flats. Pairing them with heels—whether block, kitten, or full-on stilettos—instantly elevates the look.

2. Skinny Jeans & Trousers
Yes, heels and skinny jeans are still a vibe. Add a tucked-in shirt, or even a peplum top, and you’ve got that polished coffee-date-to-dinner look. For trousers—especially high-waisted or wide-leg ones—heels prevent that awkward draggy-hem situation.

3. Ethnic Wear & Sarees
If you’ve ever worn heels under a saree, you know the magic. It not only improves posture (hello, queen energy) but also makes the drape flow so much better. Go for wedges or block heels here—because safety first, elegance second.

When to Skip the Heels (Your feet will thank you)

1. Travel Days & Long Walks
I’ve tried doing airports in heels—once. Never again. Now it’s strictly sneakers, loafers, or comfy sandals when I’m moving around a lot. Fashion matters, but foot pain? Not today, Satan.

2. Casual Catch-Ups or Picnics
Heels on grass? Nope. Heels on cobbled streets? Triple nope. For laid-back plans, cute flats or stylish loafers work just fine. Plus, they let you sit, stand, dance (or sprint after your dog) without risk.

3. When the Outfit Already Speaks Loud
Sometimes, the outfit is the moment. If you’re wearing sequins, bold prints, or anything that screams “look at me,” pairing it with neutral flats or block sandals keeps it grounded (without underdressing it).

Heels can be powerful, stylish, and just a tad dramatic (which we love). But knowing when to wear them—and when to ditch them—is the real fashion flex. Balance is everything. Wear the heels, love the heels… but don’t forget your flats are secretly MVPs too.
