You know that feeling when you’re on a reading high and just can’t stop flipping pages? That was basically my April. I ended up reading 18 books this month (yes, I am on a spree). My Goodreads challenge for 2025 started off at 40, then bumped to 70… and at this rate, I might just have to nudge it up to 100.
April brought with it a stack of romance fiction, swoon-worthy heroes, and heroines with spunk – the kind of stories that make you laugh, blush, and sometimes cry a little. While I did enjoy most of my books, three stood out and made it to my top favourite books of the month. Let’s talk about them!
1. Ain’t She Sweet by Susan Elizabeth Phillips
Rating: 4.7/5
Genre: Contemporary Romance

This was hands down my Book of the Month. SEP knows how to write flawed but lovable characters, and Ain’t She Sweet is a perfect example. The story follows Sugar Beth, a woman with a scandalous past who returns to her hometown to face the people she once hurt — and maybe make things right. What I loved most was the character growth, the humour, and of course, the delicious enemies-to-lovers tension. It’s witty, emotional, and heartwarming – if you love second chances, don’t miss this one.
2. Call Me Irresistible by Susan Elizabeth Phillips
Rating: 4.5/5
Genre: Romance Fiction

Another SEP gem! Call Me Irresistible brings Meg Koranda, the ultimate disruptor, to a small town where she’s clearly not welcome. The banter between Meg and the town’s golden boy, Ted, is everything. It’s fast-paced, hilarious, and the chemistry? Off the charts. This one’s for those who enjoy light-hearted romance with a strong female lead and the kind of small-town setting that feels like a character in itself.
3. Dream Man by Linda Howard
Rating: 4/5
Genre: Romantic Suspense

This was a fun detour from my usual rom-coms. With a touch of suspense, psychic visions, and a brooding detective, Dream Man was gripping from start to finish. I loved the slow-burn romance woven into a fast-paced plot. Linda Howard does a brilliant job blending danger and desire, making it a great pick for anyone craving a mix of mystery and love.
April was a full-blown romance rollercoaster. From sweet forgiveness to sexy tension and thrilling suspense, each book gave me something different to hold onto. And while Susan Elizabeth Phillips totally dominated my favourites this month, I have to say — Maya Alden and Nadia Lee are not far behind.
If you’re a fellow bookworm or someone looking for book recommendations in the romance genre, I highly recommend giving these titles a try. And if you’re into discovering strong female leads, small-town drama, or a little psychic spice — trust me, April’s picks won’t disappoint.
Have you read any of these books? Or have a must-read romance recommendation for me? Drop it in the comments — I’m always up for adding to my never-ending TBR!
