Oversized shirts are an absolute wardrobe must have. Comfy? Yes. Stylish? Also yes. The best part? There are at least a dozen ways to style them (probably more, but let’s not get carried away). Welcome to Chapter 8 of “What to Wear” series and today we are all about Oversized Shirts. Whether you’re going for chic or cool, here are some ways to wear it like a pro.
Tuck It In
The simplest way to make an oversized shirt work is to Tuck it in! Tucking in your oversized shirt provides structure to any outfit, whether it’s a sleek pair of trousers, high-waisted jeans, or a pleated skirt. To make it fancier, add a belt and some heels. (Effortlessly classy—who knew?)

The Half-Tuck
The half-tuck is ideal for casual and semi formal vibes. Tuck only the front portion of your oversized shirt into your denim shorts, jeans, or pants, allowing the rest to flow naturally. It looks relaxed, stylish, and like you know what you’re doing (even if you don’t).

Wear It as a Dress
If your oversized shirt is really oversized, then congratulations—you’ve just found yourself a shirt dress! Put on a belt to cinch the waist, and add some ankle boots or sneaker. You’ve got a trendy, fuss-free outfit that’s both comfortable and stylish. Extra credit for adding a cute sling bag.

Oversized shirts are like layering gold. Wear it over a fitted crop top or tank with denim shorts or jeans for an effortlessly cool look. It’s giving energy, but making it relaxed at the same time.

Knot It Up
Tie a knot at the front of your oversized shirt if you are going for a playful look. This works really well with high-waisted skirts and shorts. It defines your waist while keeping things casual and contemporary.

I bought a pair of wide-legged pants on clearance but not sure I can wear them confidently. I’m short.
Hi @Mary
Totally get that! The great thing about wide-legged pants is that they can actually be pretty flattering, even for us shorter folks, and can elongate your frame when styles right. Try pairing them with a fitted or tucked-in top to balance the volume. High-waisted styles can also create the illusion of longer legs. And if you’re up for it, don’t hesitate to add a pair of heels or platform shoes for a little extra height.
But at the end of the day, it’s all about how you feel in them. Confidence really does come from just owning your style. YConfidence usually follows once you do! 😊
