Last time I wrote a blog on Books That Made Me Better was in February 2022. Here I am today, three years later, and it seems fair to say that, in terms of book choices, not much has changed.
Even after reading 116 books in these 3 years, I could only find one book replacing another from the original list (I’ll be honest – out of those 116 books, 95% were romance, so that didn’t leave much room for me to get motivation to be better).
So, here it is, the revised list of books which I have found useful and have changed me a little bit every time I read them.
1. Who moved my cheese? by Dr. Spencer Johnson
This, of course, had to be the first one. A simple, short story with a much deeper meaning to it; how to overcome your fears and keep moving forward in life. If you are someone who doubts yourself or gets intimidated, this one is for you.
My favourite quote: “What you are afraid of is never as bad as what you imagine. The fear you let build up in your mind is worse than the situation that actually exists.”
2. Just Listen by Sarah Dessen
You need to speak up and accept what has happened. Sometimes, all we need is an ear to listen.
My favourite quote: “Don’t think or judge, just listen.”
3. A Manual for Living by Epictetus
This book literally offered me fresh perspective on life, teaching me to focus on what I can control and let go of what I can’t.
My favourite quote: “People are not disturbed by things, but by the views they take of them.”
4. Harry Potter series by J.K Rowling
A little bit of magic and a whole lot of faith can do wonders.
My favourite quote: “It matters not what someone is born, but what they grow to be.”
Books do have a way of shaping us, sometimes in small ways, sometimes in life-altering ones. While my reading choices still lean heavily toward romance, I love finding books that leave a lasting impact. So, tell me—what books have changed you? I’d love to add a few new ones to my list!
