Birthday Post

It’s funny how birthdays change as we grow. One day, you’re 19, planning for weeks – picking the perfect theme, designing invites, obsessing over the food menu, and making sure the decor is just right. And then, in what feels like the blink of an eye, you’re 29, and all you want is peace, quiet, and a little bit of time to yourself. (No fuss, no frills!)

This year, on 15th December, that was me – I wanted my birthday to be a normal day (which turned out to be on a Sunday, so what could be better than that!) No parties, no chaos, no pressure to “celebrate big.”

Two of my close friends showed up for lunch along with cake, gifts, and all the love I didn’t even know I needed. We laughed, chatted, and indulged in food and cake. Let’s not forget that I only won once in UNO and lost every time in the card game of Least Count.  Also, who doesn’t love an unexpected sugar rush? From not even wanting to cut any cake, I had to cut three (one which my friends got, another one which my in-laws sent, and the third one which was sent by my best friend).

The quiet highlight, though, was dinner. My husband and I headed to an Italian restaurant – just the two of us. The food was delicious, and we toasted the day with sangria in hand (the wine glasses clinked, the lights were cozy, and everything felt perfect). I couldn’t have asked for a better way to close out the day – good food, good wine, and my favourite person by my side.

And let’s not forget the gorgeous flowers and the many gifts that made their way to me, brightening up the room and my mood. The day may not have been extravagant, but it was just right for this version of me – quieter, more intentional, and full of gratitude.

Birthdays remind us of how we evolve. At 19, I would’ve rolled my eyes at a “quiet day,” but at 29, I savoured every bit of it. So, here’s to celebrating the way you want to – whether it’s big or small, loud or quiet, as long as it brings you joy. Cheers to growing, learning, and embracing where life takes us!
