What to Wear with Ponchos – Chapter 38

There’s something magical about ponchos. I don’t know if it’s the effortless drape, the cozy-but-chic vibe, or simply the fact that I can hide an entire lunch underneath it (don’t judge). But I’ve always felt that ponchos deserve way more love in everyday winter dressing. So yes, welcome to Chapter 38 of the “What to Wear” series.

If you’ve ever wondered how exactly to style a poncho without looking like you accidentally wrapped yourself in a blanket, let me walk you through the combinations that actually work—tried, tested and worn by yours truly.

1. Skinny Jeans
When I wear a poncho, the first thing I reach for—almost automatically—is a pair of skinny jeans. It balances out the flowy silhouette of the poncho and gives you that nice proportion. A dark-wash pair with a structured poncho? Perfect for coffee dates and slightly chilly evenings. Add ankle boots and you are good to go.

2. Leggings
On days when I want to be comfortable but still look put together, leggings are my saviour. Leather leggings make the outfit instantly dressier, while cotton leggings give a relaxed vibe.

3. Midi or Pencil Skirts
If you haven’t tried pairing ponchos with skirts, please do. A fitted pencil skirt gives structure, and a midi skirt brings flowy-meets-flowy boho energy. Just make sure the skirt is slim or structured enough to balance the poncho’s silhouette. And yes, heels help if you want that taller, elongated vibe.

4. Boots
Knee-highs for winter, ankle boots for fall, suede block heels for basically all-year styling—ponchos and boots are a love story. They just get each other. I especially love a poncho-and-jeans-and-boots look.

5. Turtlenecks
During colder months, a fitted turtleneck worn under your poncho looks incredibly chic. It keeps you warm and adds a touch of sophistication. Pair it with straight-fit trousers or even jeans, and the whole outfit looks thoughtfully styled.

Ponchos are one of those underrated wardrobe pieces that can turn a basic outfit into something beautifully cozy and stylish. Ponchos just… work.

If you’re enjoying the What to Wear series as much as I am enjoying writing it, stay tuned—Chapter 39 is coming soon!
