So here we are, another month, another pile of books devoured (and no, I’m not slowing down anytime soon). For those following my Goodreads journey — my original reading challenge was 100 books this year. But let’s just say I may have underestimated my own reading obsession because I’m already at 117 books. Challenge? Completed. Updated challenge? Also done. Basically, I’m just happily living in bookland at this point.
This August, I read 12 books, and while all of them had their moments, two stood out enough to deserve a proper mention here.
1. Face the Fire by Nora Roberts
Rating: 4.5/5
Genre: Paranormal Romance / Romantic Trilogy

This book reminded me why Nora Roberts continues to reign as one of the most beloved romance authors in the world. Face the Fire is the third and final book of her Three Sisters Island Trilogy, and honestly, I loved all three — but this one stood out.
The story revolves around Mia Devlin, a strong, independent woman who also happens to be a witch (yes, magical elements + small-town charm = pure gold). Her past collides with her present when her childhood love, Sam, walks back into her life. Sparks fly, old wounds reopen, and the magic of the island ties it all together.
What made me love this book? It’s the way Nora blends romance, family bonds, and mystical elements into one seamless narrative. If you’re someone who enjoys romantic trilogies with a hint of magic, you’ll want to add this to your TBR. It’s emotional, passionate, and gives you that perfect mix of love story and fantasy.
2. Love to Loathe Him by Rosa Lucas
Rating: 4/5
Genre: Contemporary Romance / Enemies-to-Lovers

Love to Loathe Him is a classic enemies-to-lovers romance — full of banter, sass, and those “oh no, why am I falling for him?” moments.
What made it enjoyable was its humour. I found myself grinning at the dialogues and flipping pages quickly because the chemistry between the leads was so sharp and entertaining. It’s the kind of book you pick up when you want something that feels like a rom-com — easy, fun, and mood-lifting.
If you’re hunting for funny romance book recommendations that balance humour and heart, this one is a great weekend read.
Here’s to September bringing even more bookish adventures (and maybe me setting a new Goodreads target again, because clearly I can’t stop).
Happy Reading,
Pratibha
