Another month, another stack of stories — and trust me, June did not disappoint! I clocked in 14 books again this month, bringing my Goodreads reading challenge tally to a whopping 88 out of 100. At this point, I might just have to update that goal (again) because clearly, I’m on a roll.
While I did enjoy most of my June reads, two books really stood out — one gave me a hilarious, heartwarming sports romance and the other swept me away into the world of royal secrets and Highland whispers. Let’s dive into the two books that were my favourites from June.
1. Simply the Best by Susan Elizabeth Phillips
Rating: 4.3/5
Genre: Sports Romance / Contemporary Fiction

If you know me, you know I’m a sucker for a well-written romance with depth, and SEP never misses. Simply the Best is part of her Chicago Stars series — and oh, what a treat it was! Classic enemies-to-lovers vibes, complete with smart banter and the kind of emotional tension that makes you pause mid-page. I loved how the characters felt real (and flawed in the best way) and the storyline balanced romance with growth and forgiveness. If you’re looking for a feel-good romance novel to add to your 2025 summer reading list, this one is a must.
2. Shadow Music by Julie Garwood
Rating: 4.3/5
Genre: Historical Romance / Romantic Suspense

After a few modern settings, Shadow Music was the perfect change of pace. Julie Garwood’s writing always has this graceful charm, and this story — set against the backdrop of royal duties and Highland clans — pulled me right in. The heroine is royal, the hero is mysterious (and swoon-worthy, obviously), and the plot has just enough tension to keep things moving. I loved the strong storytelling without being it too heavy. If you enjoy historical romance novels with a side of adventure, Shadow Music will definitely strike a chord.
June was filled with emotional touchdowns and regal escapism — the best kind of reading mix. If you’re looking for book recommendations in July, want to up your romance fiction game, or are just curious about what’s hot in my reading world — I’d say go grab Simply the Best and Shadow Music. Let me know what you’re currently reading too — I’m always looking to add more to my overflowing TBR!
